I’ve been working on something for the past few years and I’m finally ready to share it with you!
If you’ve ever looked for a psychological evaluation for yourself or your child, you probably know how frustrating the search can be. Most online directories are built for therapy. You filter by location and insurance, call a few names, and find out partway through the conversation that the person does weekly counseling and doesn’t do testing at all. Or they do testing, just not the kind you need. An ADHD evaluation for a second grader and an autism assessment for a 35-year-old are very different pieces of work, and plenty of psychologists only do one of them.
We hear from people at Help and Healing Center every week who reached us after a long, confusing search. Sometimes we’re the right fit. Sometimes we aren’t, and I want those families to land somewhere good too. A thorough evaluation can change how a child gets supported at school, or give an adult language for something they’ve carried their whole life. Going to the wrong provider first can cost months and a lot of money.
So we built Find My Psychologist (findmypsychologist.com). It’s a directory made only for psychologists who do evaluations and testing. You can search by the kind of evaluation you need, like autism, ADHD, or learning disabilities, and see which psychologists offer telehealth across state lines through PSYPACT. We’re starting in the Chicago area and will grow from there until we cover the US!
In the interest of full transparency: I’m a co-founder, so I’m biased. I’d still be telling you about it, because it’s the resource I’ve wanted to hand every family who calls us.
If you are reading this, please share it with the healthcare providers in your life. Your pediatrician, your family doctor, your child’s therapist, the school psychologist. They get asked “where do I go to get my kid tested?” all the time, and most of them don’t have a good answer ready. And if you know a psychologist who does evaluations, send them our way. We’re inviting evaluators to join now.
You might not need an evaluation today, and that’s fine. A lot of families end up needing one later, when a child changes schools, when new questions come up in adolescence, or when someone needs documentation for college accommodations. Bookmark the site so it’s there when that day comes.
Thank you for being part of this community. I’m really excited about this one.
